Unlocking Peak Performance: Transform Your Inspiration into Achievable Goals
Hello! We are really happy you’ve come by for a chat. Let’s Tango!
My Struggle with Fitness Goals
Truth be told, I had fitness goals for years that I failed to achieve. Until now.
For decades, I struggled to prioritize workouts to attain greater fitness. I would have periodic, temporary successes, like losing weight or building up my fitness for a wedding, snorkeling trip, or hiking adventure. But once the event was over, I’d return to old habits.
Seeking Professional Guidance
This time, I sought help. I met with a coach-trainer for an orientation. Although I had found the equipment I wanted, developed my own routine, and knew what event I was preparing for, her simple yet profound question changed my approach: “What are your goals?”
When I responded, “To come to the gym, do some strength work and cardio, and get ready for my trip in March,” she stopped me. “No, I mean why are you coming to the gym?”
Her question was the breakthrough I needed. Great coaching helps us uncover our internal motivation and develop the skills and behaviors that enhance our competence, confidence, and performance. Even as an experienced coach, I needed help to bridge the gap between inspiration and performance.
Achieving Greater Success
With this newfound clarity, I’m enjoying greater success in achieving my goals and have more confidence in maintaining my performance.
Tips for Transforming Inspiration into Action
Maybe your struggle isn’t with gym workouts. It could be making time for strategic planning, getting enough rest, prioritizing professional development, investing in team building, or finding a work-life balance. Whatever it is, consider these tips:
Start with a Vision
Define the real change you want to achieve. What’s important about this change? What will success look and feel like in the future?
Identify Potential Obstacles
Think about what might hinder your success and seek the necessary help. Ask yourself, “Where do I need the most help: Motivation, Structure, Accountability, or Knowledge?”
Build an Action Plan
Set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) to achieve your desired outcomes.
Measure Progress
Hold yourself accountable with regular check-ins on your goals. Embrace a growth mindset, reflect on your learnings, practice self-compassion, and celebrate both wins and insights from failures.
Recalibrate as Needed
Revisit your vision for change. Assess your current inspiration and motivation, identify new barriers, adjust your action plan, and determine what additional help you need to keep progressing.
Thanks for stopping by. We hope you found at least one little nugget you are taking away with you. What will you do to bring it into full living color?
